The Farmer Training Project in Sudan

Intensifying farmer training on responsible use, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

In 2010 the Farmer Training Project was launched in Sudan. The project is driven by the Sudan Agrochemicals Association (CropLife Sudan) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and is aimed at intensifying farmer training on responsible use, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The association has trained 18,000 farmers in the state-owned production plantations of four major Sudanese states. Master trainers who were certified through the regional master trainers programme facilitated the training programmes. The trainers were based in the states where the training activities took place.

The project followed the farmer school (not to be confused with Farmer Field Schools) approach whereby farmers are reached through their farming communications and in residential areas. On-farm training is provided to 50-200 farmers in each training session at the same time.
