From my home office to yours, I want to thank everyone in our community for their support and continued endurance in getting through these turbulent times. Like many of you, CropLife International has fully integrated into a virtual business model while we continue to deliver the programs and engagement for our members. I am committed to ensuring we provide a safe and stable working environment and remain flexible to adapt to our new ways of working.
COVID-19 represents a major additional challenge for farmers, and of course, for the entire world. We are doing everything we can to support our members in the plant science industry and their customers, the farmers. We applaud the efforts of those working tirelessly to ensure a stable food supply during these challenging times. Now they will be instrumental in keeping a health crisis from turning into a hunger crisis.
During these last few weeks, it has been interesting for me to see how the world is waking up to the importance and complexity of our integrated global food supply. For CropLife International, our first priority has been to emphasize the importance of maintaining trade and open borders to ensure farmers have the necessary crop inputs and ability to harvest and market their products. As we look longer-term, our focus must also include the impact of COVID-19 on farmers in developing countries and the risks this presents to our global food security. Together we must ensure that the supply of healthy and sustainable crops remains strong and reliable. Any delays could put food supplies at risk in both the short- and long-term.
This is not a challenge anyone will overcome alone, and we stand ready to cooperate and assist in any way needed to ensure food security does not further increase this challenge. I have spoken with our members and various stakeholders to find ways to unlock new ideas and partnerships that can increase our support and commitments. I encourage our members and global network partners to work together more than ever.
If you have any questions or comments as to how CropLife International can assist you and your team in navigating through these circumstances, please do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts and ideas.
Take care and stay strong,
Giulia Di Tommaso,
President & CEO
