What is your job? 

I am a horticultural farmer in Comuna Alhué, Metropolitan region, Chile.

Why did you want to be a farmer?

Farming is my family´s source of income, it has allowed my daughter to go to college. In Addition, being a farmer has taught me about the benefits of healthy eating.

Why is your profession important in the challenge to feed the world?

All of us are part of the solution to the challenge of feeding the world. As a small producer, I consider that my contribution lies in providing food at a local level.

How do you protect your crops?

First, I protect my crops with physical barriers to block large animals. Regarding pests and diseases, I use bio preparations to control them.

What impact do pests and diseases have on your crops and livelihood? 

Up until today, I don’t believe there has been any negative impact on my crops, since pest control management has been successful.
